Befriending SchemeBefriending

The Befriending Scheme project is funded by the North West Leicestershire District Council and is available throughout North West Leicestershire.

The scheme is for older people who may be lonely or socially isolated and in need of some company and support. It is free to users of the scheme. Anyone can refer to the scheme and older people can refer themselves.

The Befriending Scheme Co-ordinator and Administrative Assistant are based in Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland's North West Leicestershire office in Coalville. Our team of volunteers visit older people in their own home to provide friendship, company and support.Befriending

After an initial visit by the Co-ordinator to the older person to meet them and assess their needs they are introduced to a volunteer who will then visit them regularly. Volunteers and clients decide the frequency, day and timing of visits between themselves.

All volunteer befrienders undergo an enhanced check with the Criminal Records Bureau and provide references as to their suitability for the befriending scheme. We offer ongoing support and training to our volunteers.

Clients and Volunteers enjoy the building of a new friendship and can feel secure and confident being involved with a recognised organisation.
