Minority Ethnic Forum
Leicester Shire & Rutland Minority Ethnic Forum was originally developed in 2002 to provide support to an increasing number of independent groups for Minority Ethnic Elders.
In 2004, the forum took a major step forward by securing a Big Lottery grant that enabled the appointment of a Forum Co-ordinator, whose role includes recruiting new member organisations and creating opportunities for the forum to engage in consultation with a wide range of health and social care organisations.
The Forum's recent achievements have included.
- Consulting with Leicestershire County Council as part of their Corporate Equality Plan.
- Engaging in Public Discussion focused around the DALE service & Direct Payments
- Taking part in discussions relating to local services that would directly involve older people, such as health and Social Care.
Age Concern Leicester Shire provides administrative support that enables the Forum to meet four times per year so that member groups can network with each other, engage with external organisations and receive updates about new services.
If you are a group of older people from a Minority Ethnic Community, the forum can offer you:
- An opportunity to make your voice heard
- Advice and Information
- An opportunity to engage with other communities and agencies
- An opportunity to represent the needs of Minority Ethnic Elders
- Advice on fundraising
- Access to training
- Access to support networks
- Opportunities to consult with service providers about planning and decision making
If you are a service provider, we can help you to:
- Develop a clearer picture of the needs of Minority Ethnic Elders
- Engage with and involve Minority Ethnic Groups in planning and decision making processes
- Provide training, advice and information
