Lunch clubsLunch out with friends

These groups help to meet the needs of older people who may be physically active but experiencing difficulties because of social isolation or bereavement. Quite often the attraction of a lunch club is the simple pleasure of being able to share a meal in the company of friends.
Lunch Clubs are run throughout the region by local volunteers who are dedicated to providing this valuable service. For many active older people, this may be their first contact with Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland and so these clubs also act as a gateway to a whole range of other services.

Travelling lunch clubs

This service has been developed very successfully in areas where small rural communities have not been able to support or maintain their own lunch club. A coach is provided to pick up members from a group of villages and take them to a country pub or restaurant for an affordable meal in the company of friends.

Each travelling luncheon club is set up by Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland, but once established, members elect a committee to run the club with continuing support as required.
