Mental health services

Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland operates a number of services specifically for older people with mental health problems. We work closely with both Social Services and Leicestershire Mental Health Services NHS Trust.

Voluntary services organisers

Our VSOs are attached to Community Mental Health Teams composed of Health Workers, Social Workers and other professionals. They provide advice and support to older people with mental health problems and their carers.

Carers support groups

These groups provide an opportunity for those caring for older people with mental health problems to meet, share experiences, obtain information and have informal contact with professional staff of all disciplines.

Bereavement groups

These groups aim to give people time to talk about the loss they are experiencing and to understand the feelings they are having. These are not social clubs but it is hoped that friendships will develop.

Daycare

Day Care offers companionship, physical and psychological support to members and their carers. Day Centres provide a safe environment for older people with mental health problems and aim to encourage social interaction and group activities.
