Grandparent of the Year 2009 17th October 2008
Grandparent of the Year 2009
The search is on to find the nation's favourite grandparent for the highly coveted title of Age Concern's Grandparent of the Year 2009 in association with Specsavers. The award recognises the valuable contribution that grandparents make to society and the economy, often acting as mentors in family life and building understanding between generations. One in four families rely on them to look after children each week, with this free child care worth £3.8M to the UK economy.
This year a panel of judges will select 13 regional winners from around the UK. From these, five national finalists will be invited on a VIP trip to London with their families in March 2009. The grand final will be held at the House of Commons with GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips in the famous Terrace Room, overlooking the London Eye.
The winner receives
- £3000 to spend as they wish
- £750 of eyecare vouchers from Specsavers
- £200 of hearing vouchers from Specsavers.
The closing date for entries is Sunday 30th November and the nominating grandchild must be 6 years or over at the date of entry.
