Residential and nursing home advisory service

Moving into a care home can be a worrying experience for everyone - the older person, their family, friends and carers. Lots of questions are thrown up and many people don't know where to turn to for guidance.

Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland set up the Residential and Nursing Homes Advisory Service to help people in just this situation. Advice is free of charge and confidential and you will find help with such issues as:

  • Choosing a home
  • Being assessed by social services
  • Who pays for care
  • How the rules affect houses and savings
  • Whether property can be given away
  • Applying for state benefit relating to residential or nursing care.

The service can also provide information on alternatives to full time care, such as:

  • Sheltered Accommodation
  • Our Day Centres
  • Respite Care
  • Luncheon Clubs
  • Our Home Care Company

The service is independent and impartial and advice can be obtained over the telephone, by calling at Lansdowne House, or by arranging a home visit.
