Acting as Service Developers
- Four members of staff are trained in ‘Race Equality and Cultural Capability' (RECC) training which has developed from DRE strategy to develop knowledge and understanding of racism, cultural differences, impacts of discrimination and reduce race equality to all staff and services in mental health. These individuals will be delivering this training on an on-going basis to various staff teams.
- Staff members sit on various forums and partnership board meetings to highlight the importance and relevance of the DRE and BME Mental Health issues. These include City and County DRE groups, LIT meetings, TAG, Acute Care Forum, PPI, Prison Diversity meetings.
- Participating in the clinical trailblazers programme to make a positive difference in the experience and outcomes of BME patients. Currently delivering well-being and alternative therapy session on Knighton Ward which is an inpatient Mental Health ward.
- Joint partnership working with Gypsy and Traveller Specialist worker to deliver information awareness sessions on the Gypsy and Traveller community to professionals.
- Project helped to recruit two volunteers from BME communities to become part of the hospital chaplaincy team to increase the diversity of the chaplaincy team and enable more effective engagement with BME inpatients.
- Working with Prisons in the city and county to address the mental health needs of BME inpatients.
